Regular and Irregular Polygons
- Watch the Video on regular and irregular polygons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN57vvrMrY4
- Take photos or draw examples of 2 regular polygons and 2 irregular polygons. Name each of your polygons and say whether it is regular or irregular.
Bonus: Which is the irregular and which is the regular polygon? Can you find the perimeter of each?

Inferencing
Let’s do some more practice with inferences (those really good guesses we make while reading). When we make an inference, our brain is doing a couple of things that we might not even notice is happening! We observe what is happening, we question and wonder and then we combine these ideas with what we already know to make an inference.
An observation is just what we see, hear,
smell, taste or feel. We don’t add any judgments or thoughts to our
observations yet.
Wonders are just like they sound! After you
make an observation, what are you wondering about? What questions do you have?
An inference combines our observations and
wonders and gets our brain thinking! An
inference uses theses clues and ideas to state what we think is happening.
Let’s use an O.W.I chart to slow our brains
down and practice this process. When I look at this picture I observed (I just
used sight in this case, tasting the paper would be weird…), wondered and made
some inferences. Do you agree with my observations, wonders and inferences or
do you have some different ideas?
What
I Observe
-She is sitting on something
-Her hair is flying up
-Her eyes are big and round
-Her mouth is frowning
-Someone is sitting beside her
-There is something behind her that is green
-She is wearing summer clothes (shorts and a tank
top)
|
What I Wonder
-Who is beside her?
-Is she at an amusement park?
-Is that her dad beside her?
-Is she having fun or is she
scared?
-Will she want to go again?
-Has she done this before or is this her first time?
|
What
I Infer
-She is on a big slide going down, I can tell
because her hair is flying up
-She is going really fast and is scared, I can tell
by her face
-She might still be having fun because I have been
on a ride before that was scary but fun!
-It is summer time because she is wearing shorts and
a tank top

Now you try! Look at this picture of the
dog and use the O.W.I chart to tell me what you observe, what you wonder and
then make some inferences about what you think might be happening in this
picture.
You can click on the link at the bottom and
complete this in your google drive and share it with me: fanayyar@educbe.ca or you can just write
your ideas using pencil and paper and send me a picture!
If you work in google drive, make sure to
make a copy of it first before you start working or someone else might
accidentally erase your work. Making a copy is easy, just click on file and then
make a copy:
Okay, now try it out with this dog picture.
Copy and paste the following link to get the O.W.I chart with the dog.
