The day before halloween.....

Another reminder about Halloween tomorrow:

Students are welcome to wear their costume to school!  Please, no weapons or scary masks!
If students do not want to wear their costume or they do not recognize Halloween, they can either wear Black and Orange or regular clothes.  Please do not send treats for your class!

Tomorrow, CHS will be having our seventh annual “Pumpkinella” event.
Children may bring in a Jack-O-Lantern to be put in the gym as part of our ‘spooktacular’ display.
We will do a Pumpkinella tour to admire all the Jack O' Lanterns!
Pumpkins can be brought to the gym between 8:55 – 9:10AM and must be picked up by 4:15PM the same day.
Unclaimed pumpkins will be composted.

Today we had our class pictures.  It was a challenge lining ourselves up from the tallest to the shortest!

We continued to learn about arrays in math.  Ask your child to make you an array for 3X5.  What does it equal?  They should have 3 rows of 5 in their array.

We began a writing assignment based on a special someone in our lives.  Your child may have a question or two for you when they get home.

In social studies, we ordered a list of feelings that made us happy and a list that made us sad.

Notices:
1.  Remember to continue practicing your Remembrance Day songs!
2.  Please see the prior post regarding Halloween and Pumpkinella.
3.  Friday is a PD day so no school for students.

In math, we looked at arrays and how they can help us with multiplication.  Have your child tell you how the following array can be turned into a multiplication sentence.
ooooo
ooooo
ooooo

In social studies, we reviewed the difference between wants and needs.  Tomorrow we will go a bit further and look at the quality of life.

In spelling, we practiced our new words using the 'Write It' game.  Your child can practice their words at home this way as well.

Halloween and Pumpkinella

Happy Halloween!  Students are invited to wear their regular clothes, orange/black clothes, or their Halloween costumes to school on Thursday, October 31st.  All pretend weapons must remain at home.  We also ask that you please do not send any food, candy, toys or other items to be handed out to students on this day.

On Wednesday, October 30, class group photos and individual retakes will take place.  If you would like your child to have retakes, please tell them to listen for the announcement.  There is no paper to sign and you do not need to contact the teacher regarding retakes.
On Thursday, October 31, Coventry Hills School will be having our seventh annual “Pumpkinella” event.  Children may bring in a Jack-O-Lantern to be put in the gym as part of our ‘spooktacular’ display.  Pumpkins can be brought to the gym between 8:55 – 9:10 and must be picked up by 4:15 the same day.  Unclaimed pumpkins will be composted.  In past years, we have had as many as 100 entries into the exciting event.  Our students enjoy viewing the Jack-O-Lanterns and voting for their favorite.  There will be prizes for the top three most voted for entries!!

We had indoor recess all day today.  We may have a little more energy than usual to burn off when we get home.

Author Jace Jax and artist Henry Hama visited our school today!  These local Calgarians read their new book Kidsburgh Chronicles Little Jack Jarmagan: A Halloween Tale!  Accompany young Jack Jarmagan as he encounters the creatures lurking in Kidsburgh on Halloween night!

In math, we continued to work on making groups to better understand multiplication.  Tomorrow we will be looking at arrays as another strategy for understanding multiplication.

We got a new list of spelling words today.  Please ask your child to sort the words and begin to practice them.

Notice: Scholastic book orders went home today for those who ordered.

We had our first spelling assessment today.

After recess, we went into the Auxiliary gym and painted poppies for our Remembrance Day Ceremony.

We started our new read aloud.  It's called "Because of Winn Dixie."  Ask me about the characters and the setting so far.

We read with a partner at the end of the day.

Mrs.Pelling came into our classroom today and we were all able to give her a big goodbye hug.

We finished up our cards for Mrs. Pelling. Enjoy the pictures of everyone working cooperatively together.

Modified Remembrance Day Lyrics

Here are the modified Remembrance Day Lyrics.  There are only a few minor changes.  Happy Practicing!

Remembrance Day 2019
Freedom Song – (Phil Wickham – “Heaven Song” with modified lyrics)

You wrote a letter and you signed your name I read every word of it page by page You said that you'd be waiting, looking for me soon Oh my love I'll be ready for you

I want to run on greener pastures I want to dance on higher hills I want to drink from sweeter waters In the misty morning chill And my soul is getting restless For the place where I belong I can't wait to join my angel and sing my freedom song

BOYS:  I hear your voice and I catch my breath GIRLS:  You’ve done your duty Enter in, and rest               As tears I’ve shed roll down my cheek BOYS:  It's beautiful beyond my wildest dreams

ALL:

But I want to run on greener pastures I want to dance on higher hills I want to drink from sweeter waters In the misty morning chill And my soul is getting restless For the place where I belong
I can't wait to join my angel and sing…

I want to run on greener pastures I want to dance on higher hills I want to drink from sweeter waters In the misty morning chill And my soul is getting restless For the place where I belong I can't wait to join my angel and sing…

No I can't wait to join my angel and sing…
My Freedom Song.

SING FOR PEACE  (to follow the minute of silence/bugle
Sing out around the world
Sing out around the world
Sing out around the world
And let your voice be heard

GIRLS:  Sing for pea-------------------------------------------ce
BOYS ECHO:          Sing for pea----------------------------ce

GIRLS:  Sing for pea-------------------------------------------ce
BOYS ECHO:          Sing for pea----------------------------ce

ALL:  Sing for peace for people everywhere
GIRLS:  Sing for pea-------------------------------------------ce
BOYS ECHO:          Sing for pea----------------------------ce

GIRLS:  Sing for pea-------------------------------------------ce
BOYS ECHO:          Sing for pea----------------------------ce

ALL:  Sing for peace for people everywhere  (then all sit)
